Look at this pork dumpling. I mean, just look at him — pear-shaped and slouchy, pug-nosed and stupid looking, sporting a handlebar mustache as if to hide the fact that he might have down’s syndrome.

He’s practically a cartoon of a campus cop, and this picture of him would be little more than silly if it weren’t taken moments before he walked up to a row of peaceful protesters at UC Davis and blasted them in the face with pepper spray so casually you’d think he was watering his fucking lawn.

If ever there were a poster boy for the banality of evil, it would be this guy.

For the record, his name is John Pike and he’s a Lieutenant with the UC Davis Police. Not that his name matters, because he’s unremarkable in every way.

That’s the point, really. He’s just an average schlub working for an average campus police force at an average school in an average town. He is painfully average. This guy spends his days writing reports for stolen bicycles and confiscating open cans of Four Loko. Sure, he’s got a gun and a badge, but who are we kidding? He’s one notch above mall security.

Pathetic men like John Pike are precisely why the banality of evil is such a potent concept, and it’s all those empty heads underneath those ridiculous storm trooper helmets that lead to this kind of normalization of authoritarian violence.

This is the part where I’m supposed to say “fuck the police,” but when tubs of shit like this are making the news, I honestly don’t have any more fucks to give.

At this point, I’ll be surprised if he’s even reprimanded.

Okay. Ahem. Who the fuck do you think you are? That is not a pork dumpling, that is a human being. I don’t give two flying fucks what shape he is, what sort of posture he defaults to, or what kind of mustache he sports OR what it might be hiding. I am absolutely not condoning what he did. He certainly should not have pepper sprayed protesters who did nothing to provoke such treatment; that was utterly a wrong move on his part, and I hope he faces adequate consequences for his actions. REGARDLESS of that, he is not evil. He is likely confused, insecure, and misinformed. He probably has just as many issues as any other human being on this planet, and probably has just as much work do to as far as working on those problems goes. I don’t give a rat’s ass if he is unremarkable or not, he is a person and you have no right to say things like this about him. I don’t care if he spends his days picking his snot and eating it, HE IS A FUCKING PERSON. It’s people like YOU, whoever you are posting your horrid brain vomit, with your empty head and your ridiculous prejudices, who lead to this kind of normalization of PURE UNADULTERATED VIOLENCE. Words can be violent, too; don’t you ever fucking forget that. You watch what you have to say about people; especially people you don’t know the first fucking thing about. This is where I’m supposed to say “Fuck humanity,” but I won’t, because I believe in the strength of people, and I believe that you can learn from your mistakes and better yourself, and I believe that that can change the world and rid us of this kind of petty shit. Because I give all my fucks. Who are you to judge this man? Who are you to call him names and degrade him all over the internet? I urge you to think and think hard on the words KINDNESS, FORGIVENESS, and PATIENCE. I am sure John Pike has much in this life to learn, and so do you.
